few words about

Fezzano

Ancient fundus Alphidianus in Roman times, the village was Mezzano until the ninth century under the marquises Malaspina and was donated to the monastery of San Venerio by Guidone son of the late marquis Alberto on 6 January 1052.

Fezzano was the birthplace of Simonetta Cattaneo Vespucci, a noblewoman in 15th-century Medici Florence who was portrayed by Botticelli.

It was an autonomous municipality under the French Empire in 1805.

portovenere

Fezzano is one of the thirteen fishing villages that every year participate in the Palio del Golfo. Located between the villages of Le Grazie and Cadimare, Fezzano is the first hamlet of the municipality of Porto Venere that meets on the only road that runs along the coast.

Of historical and architectural importance are the parish church of San Giovanni Battista (from 1739), archcourt from 1783) and the church of San Nicola (XVII century).

Events

The village of Fezzano celebrates every year on June 24th the Patron Saint John the Baptist, and, for this occasion, offers folklore festivals with fair-market of handicrafts and food and wine, shows of light music and dance, painting exhibition and a pre-remiera racepalio.
