FEW WORDS ABOUT
Portovenere
Portovenere in ligure, Portivène in the local variant, is an Italian municipality of 3,412 inhabitants in the province of La Spezia in Liguria. Because of its urban extension is the smallest municipality in the province of La Spezia.
In 1997 Porto Venere, together with the islands Palmaria, Tino, Tinetto and the Cinque Terre was included among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Although the most ancient origins of the village date back to the 6th century B.C. and the presence of the Ligurian people, the first historical dates of Porto Venere date back to Claudio Tolomeo (150 A.D.) and the Maritime Itinerary (Itinerarium Maritimum Imperatoris Antonini Augusti) by the emperor Antonino Pio of 161 A.D. where the village is reported as vicus (port of call) and then castrum between the localities of Segesta Tigulliorum (today’s Sestri Levante) and Luni.
